Back in February we wrote a story urging fisheries managers to try sorting hatchery fish for size — in an effort to offset the harvest/predation biases that target larger returning salmon. We couldn’t be more excited to read details that the Nisqually Tribe is actually giving this idea a go! We continue to be impressed with the Nisqually Tribe’s innovative approaches in management, and wish them well on this pilot program!

Way to go! That’s the only way to get stronger native fish. The philosophy of selecting smaller fish so that they are less competitive with native fish is idiotic! We all know that sometimes hatchery fish can breed with native fish so this idea propagates smaller and weaker native fish! Way to go Nisqually tribe! Keep up the logical work!
