Columbia River Treaty | US ready to start

The US State Department has formally completed the process to initiate discussions to modernize the Columbia River Treaty. Now 50+ years old, the treaty has broad impacts for both the US and Canada, not the least of which is the opportunity to expand salmon recovery efforts on both sides of the border. Now we wait to see if Canada is ready to come to the table:

“(I) hope that now the Canadian government will come to the table and start detailing what a new hydro agreement will look like,” Cantwell said. “We’re just sitting at the table waiting.” Senator Maria Cantwell
